I think it can make a good effect.
you are fucking crazy, buy this domain.
no market, just buy buy buy
This seems to be like some other bips. First they act and then they ask DAO to accept it. If it doesnât get accepted, they will reword the bip until it gets accepted. If it gets to snapshot even with disagreement, badger whales will dictate the snapshot voting result. I think you know the saying âmoney talks, bullshit walksâ.
Itâs great to see so much discussion and opinions being expressed both for and against. Iâm for this as itâs a relatively small amount compared to what we are making and will pay for itself overtime with helping our brand recognition.
300k for a domain - it shows how valueless money is.
badger.finance is a perfect domain. With 300k we could support developers or other really meaningful things, but not for a âstupidâ Domain
This decision is a no brainer. This domain purchase meets the long term vision of ultimately increasing badgerâs reputation & trust.
This is both expensive and wholly unnecessary.
No way, and certainly not right now, and certainly not a good use of $300k. At $3k Iâd feel differently. But this unfairly enriches one dude at the expense of the community.
As such, I think it sends the wrong message.
well said, ser! couldnât agree more.
^^^ This is the key point.
That money could do so much more for the community if deployed in other ways.
Weigh this spend against a $300k in prizes for a hackathon. Or hiring community managers. Or product expansions.
I think the nays have it backwards. Spending a large sum of money on an infrastructure purchase is a signal that Badger plans to be around long term. In the 1900âs banks would often build the largest and most expensive buildings in a city to show that they will be around long enough for such an investment to pay off. This gives depositors a sense of security. Showing that Badger is here to stay is very valuable.
this isnât a rebrand
good idea. this will bring many benefits. great move for marketing.
I fail to see how this could be a bad thing.
Sure, .finance works and is nice. But there is simply nothing, from a brand standpoint, like the simplicity of a one-word name followed by .com
This is how badger accrues mainstream acceptance and authority in its domain.
I voted yes, obviously!
Jumping in again. I donât think that some members of the community really understand what a good domain such as Badger.com is.
It is a unique name, it is real state that holds value and will appreciate in value. It is an investment (which will also be strategically used). Like owning real state, or like owning Bitcoin. Store of value.
So it is good use of the treasury, and it is really a small amount compared to the current daily revenue of Badger. I see it as a no brainer to be honest.
I am in favor of this. A core thesis of my badger bull case is the differentiated marketing capabilities of the DAO. The emphasis that @Spadaboom and the core team have put on this, even in such early days, is great to see. I have witnessed other projects languish because they didnât put enough emphasis on engaging and educating a userbase
With that being said, letâs make sure weâre holding ourselves accountable. This means putting some KPIs in place. I would love to see the following:
KPI #1: MoM Impression Growthâ> is this site driving an increasing amount of eyeballs to us?
KPI #2: Activation Rate â Are we successfully converting those eyeballs in to activated badger users.
#1 is easy to track already. #2 requires some doing on our end.
Over time, Iâd like us to consider more paid marketing channels to grow our community. But we MUST have metrics in place first, otherwise weâre spraying and praying.
What if a malicious entity had acquired badger.com then cloned our site with malicious contracts? And most people who have heard of badger will just search for badger.com.
If we want to build one of the strongest brands in DeFi and cross the chasm into the mainstream I canât see how we wouldnât want to own a memorable .com domain. I donât know if $300K would be a reasonable price to pay for such a domain, but then the value it will have to the Badger brand is certainly higher given our ambitions to become the go to place for Bitcoin in DeFi.
Per estibot.com (free appraisal service for domains), the appraised value of BADGER.com is $129,000. In my humble opinion, it does appear that the $300K is over double the actual value of the domain. If there is other supporting data, it would be nice to see it posted here (or at least a link).
AND please stop comparing it to sushi.com. That is a horrible comparison. There are a ton of people in the world that are going to that domain because they think it is food related and have no intention of supporting a crypto project.
This Is Huge , Iâm In
a little steep but if Badger continues to become the prime spot for all thing BTC on all chains, then definitely worth it.
Spanish Translation:
un poco costoso, pero si Badger continĂșa convirtiĂ©ndose en el lugar principal para todo lo relacionado a BTC en todas las cadenas, definitivamente vale la pena.
